Nursing homes look like hospitals and might even give off that uneasy feeling. Just like a hospital, nursing homes have walls, doors, door knobs, and hand rails that are cold. They also have an unpleasant odor like hospitals. Places like this where elderly stay in their rooms for most of their day can’t be healthy for them.

Many adults feel that if their parents stay at a nursing home instead of living at home, it is better for them. This can’t always be the best solution because many aspects can change the outcome of senior citizens staying at a nursing home. For people who don’t have trouble speaking English or conversing with people they meet, a nursing home can be a great place for them. At nursing homes, there are lounge areas where all the residents mingle, talking and spending time together. But for residents who don’t speak English, who have trouble moving around and also who enjoy being alone will not find a nursing home very pleasant. They would rather live with family or even like living alone. For these people living at home is the best because they won’t have the feeling of being lonely, where other negative problems could arise.
